Del Norte Senior Center names new director
by Miriam Boyce

An innovative manager with five years experience in developing and implementing creative strategies in adult and family services, Cyndie Brande, has been appointed the Del Norte Senior Center's new executive director as of Oct. 5.

Brande's nine-year history with adult services and experience with the development, implementation of programs and creative strategies will benefit the senior community of Del Norte County with her directorship of the senior center.

"This department will sorely miss her dedication and expertise," said Stephen Brohmer, director and public guardian of health and social services in a letter to the senior center's board of directors. He added that he looks forward to the opportunity to work with her in her new role as executive director of the senior center.

It is Brande's goal that the three-year-old senior center, and Redwood Cove apartment complex, the realized vision of retired director Gene Olson, will be the base of future services and programs for senior citizens and their families in Del Norte County while maintaining the current programs offered at the senior center.

"The senior population of Del Norte County needs a senior center that provides both services and social opportunity," Brande said. "It is my intent to utilize my experience and skills to develop and incorporate new programs and services for the seniors at the Del Norte Senior Center while fostering new alliances with the community."

Del Norte Senior Center services currently consist of the nutrition program, Meals on Wheels, social activities, cards, dance, and exercise. Other programs on-site are Senior Information and Assistance, Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, and Weatherization.

Miriam Boyce is the special events coordinator and publicist for the Del Norte Senior Center, 464-3069, 1765 Northcrest Drive. .
