Is the new County General Plan sustainable? Come to Nov. 8 workshop
by Rudy Ramp

One of the key elements of a community is an active public in the democratic process. Therefore the Sustainable Communities Committee of the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County (LWV) is organizing and facilitating forums and workshops for the public.

The first workshop would like input from League members and the public on the initial phase of the county General Plan update process. The workshop will be held at and co-sponsored by the Humboldt County Library, 1313 Third St., Eureka, on Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Kathy Moxon of the Institute of the Northcoast will present "Prosperity, the North Coast Strategy to Economic Development." followed by visioning and issues identification sessions which will be facilitated by the County Community Development Division (Planning Dept.). The outcome of this process will be an issues and alternatives report reviewed by the Board of Supervisors to provide direction for the drafting of the General Plan. The workshop facilitators will record all statements.

If you are not able to attend this workshop but would like to provide your input into the process, please send your comments to me by snail mail at 370A California Ave., Arcata 95521 or e-mail rampturn@ tidepool.com.

Also the Sustainable Communities Committee will explore opportunities to organize and facilitate forums on the theme of Choices for a Vital Community. The LWV of California has prepared a Choice Book, and early next year will offer forum facilitation training using the Choice Book.
