New leadership comes to Healy Senior Center
Tom Bazile became director of the Healy Senior Center in January 1998
and site manager for the lunch program shortly after. Carol Evans became
Home Delivered Meals coordinator just a month or two later. Both the Congregate
Lunch Program and Meals on Wheels have grown and prospered under their
direction.
Carol and Tom were retired for some time before accepting these positions
and brought previous management skill that was needed for this complex
contract. However, it was never meant to be permanent, and they are pleased
that someone with the qualifications of Evelyn King is able to take over.
Evelyn King assumed the combined duties as full time executive director
in May.
Evelyn comes to the Healy Senior Center most recently as activities director
at the Southern Humboldt Healthcare District Skilled Nursing Facility.
Prior to that she was assistant director of the senior center in Pleasanton,
California. She also managed the city's nutrition programs. Evelyn's college
training emphasized recreation therapy and creating special programs for
special needs. Evelyn envisions bringing expanded opportunities for educational
and recreational activities for the seniors of Southern Humboldt County.
