World Senior Games
by Arthur C. Jones

Three members of the Humboldt Classics Senior Softball Association took part in the 15th anniversary of the Huntsman's World Senior Games that was held recently in St. George, Utah. John French from Bayside and Jack McHenry from Hydesville played for the Eugene 60s team in the B Division, and I helped the State Roofing Royals from Redwood City win the gold medal in the 65-year old AAA Division. It was my second medal, having won a silver last year in the 60s division.

The Huntsman's World Senior Games involve both men and women from all over the world in physical and social events, "fostering worldwide peace and health." Each athlete competes with others in the same age bracket of five-year increments, starting with age 50 and extending to 70+ years.

The Games also offer free health screenings to all participants and their guests during the two-week schedule. The cost for the experience is minimal; and all who sign up receive lots of goodies, including a golf shirt, a commemorative medal, and coupons for local shops. Those who have attended more than one year meet friends and acquaintances from past years.

The people of St. George were sincerely friendly and hospitable, and the facilities were among the best you'll find anywhere. Just to see and socialize with so many healthy and youthful senior athletes is truly inspiring.
