Del Norte County
Northcoast Writers Group forms after conference
by Virginia Hinkley
A year and a half of preparation ended last Sept. 28th and 29th with two
days of the first annual Northcoast Redwoods Writers' Conference. Brian
Bieber and I had worked closely on the conference, and during that time
we also created a writers' group that meets once a week. We chose the
title of Northcoast Writers' Group with the hope of attracting all types
of writing, be it fiction, nonfiction, essays or poetry.
Many aspiring writers as well as some published authors live on the North
Coast. Getting together to read and discuss our work not only helps the
aspiring writers improve their writing, it gives them an opportunity to
meet people who are working hard, submitting their work and coping with
rejection slips. I have just received another rejection, but since working
with other writers my slips telling me, "Not interested," have
become nice letters explaining why they've rejected my work.
Our group meets every Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in the lobby of Redwood
Cove Apartments located directly behind the Del Norte Senior Center at
1765 Northcrest Drive in Crescent City. We invite aspiring writers to
join us. Bring pen and pad as well as something to read aloud.
Interested writers can call me at 707-464-9400 or e-mail v.hinkley@verizon.com;
or Brian Bieber 707-464-3670, e-mail babsbieber@aol.com.
Virginia Hinkley lives and writes in Crescent City, California.
