Ferndale celebrates 150th

The city of Ferndale will celebrate its Sesquicentennial Aug.23-24 with a variety of events beginning at 6 p.m. Friday with aMerchants' Hospitality Night. Main Street shops will be open as willseveral of the old meeting halls which will house historic displaysrecounting the fascinating history of the Eel River Valley from thetime of its settlement by the Shaw brothers in 1852. From 7-10 p.m. astreet dance will be held in the Main Street parking lot with musicprovided by the Bayou Swamis.
On Saturday the display halls will open at 10 a.m. and aparade down Main Street will begin at 11 a.m. Following will be abarbecue at the end of Main Street with games for the kids in the USBank parking lot. Guests will be able to tour historic sitesincluding the Shaw House, Berding House, Ferndale Museum, Cemetery,Masonic Hall and more, and at approximately 3:15 p.m. the cakecutting ceremony and sealing of the time capsule will take place.
