Eureka and Del Norte Learn about communication and behavior
Did you know that as a person's dementia worsens, their ability to understand and interpret verbal communication decreases, but their ability to interpret nonverbal communication may actually increase?
If we want to avoid creating challenging behaviors, one big step is changing how we communicate, both verbally and nonverbally. Jamie Kerr, Alzheimer's Education Specialist with the Alzheimer's Day Care Resource Center will discuss Communication and Behavior on Tuesday Sept. 10, from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Eureka Adult Day Health Services, 1901 California Street in Eureka, and again on Sept. 24, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Addie Meedom House, 1445 Parkway Drive in Crescent City.
These workshops are free and open to the public as part of an ongoing educational series designed to provide information and support to anyone coping with Alzheimer's disease. For more information please call Maggie Kraft at 444-8254 ext. 202.
The Alzheimer's Day Care Resource Center is a program of the Humboldt Senior Resource Center and serves both Del Norte and Humboldt counties. Partial funding for this program is provided through a grant from the Area Agency on Aging.
