Fortuna Community meeting called to discuss senior needs by Robert Siekmann Church of the Redeemer in Fortuna is a congregation with a good percentage of older adults. Being Presbyterian, it also has a concern with social issues. We asked a question-are the needs of older adults in Fortuna being addressed? We didn't know the answer. We thought a good starting point might be bringing people in Fortuna together, along with some of the providers of senior and community services, to have a conversation. So we are planning to do that on Saturday, Feb. 8, starting at 11:30 a.m. at the church at 1431 Ross Hill Road. We're not sure what will come out of this. Perhaps it will be a greater awareness of our needs as an aging population. Perhaps it will lead to further conversations. Perhaps it will lead to community people coming together to effectively address perceived needs. Feb. 8 is a starting point. We need residents of Fortuna, especially older adults, to come. Robert Siekmann is minister of the Church of the Redeemer. |
