Del Norte First Habitat house construction is underway by Marty Snead Del Norte Habitat for Humanity has begun work on its first house construction. The groundbreaking ceremony for this event was held Oct. 25 and was well attended by neighbors, civic leaders, Habitat volunteers and friends and relatives of the "partner family." It is so exciting to begin this worthwhile work, and we hope that it is just the beginning of many homes to be built in Del Norte. Habitat for Humanity is a Christian based ecumenical nonprofit organization whose goal is to eliminate poverty housing. Habitat for Humanity is an international organization whose work is well known all over the world. But, there is still a need to eliminate poverty housing here in the United States. We offer a hand up to our partner families who agree to provide sweat equity and be able to make a small down payment as well as repay a no-interest loan for the cost of materials used in the construction of their home. We depend on the tireless work of our volunteers and generous contributions from our community, as all funding is provided by each local affiliate. Many of our volunteers are retired, but we encourage all ages to participate. It is a wonderful work, and we have seen repeatedly that God blesses the gift and the giver. If you are interested in making a donation of time, labor or money, please contact Del Norte Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 993, Crescent City, CA 95501 or call 707-464-2027 or 707-464-9071. Marty Snead is co-president of Del Norte Habitat for Humanity. |
