Fortuna It gives us great pleasure to announce an important event for Fortuna area seniors. On Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Fortuna Veterans Memorial Building at 11 a.m., the first membership meeting will be held by Fortuna Senior Services Inc., a newly formed nonprofit corporation organized to serve the needs of Fortuna area seniors. The purpose of this meeting is to inform Fortuna seniors about the nonprofit corporation and to sign up new members. The nonprofit corporation was formed as a result of two community meetings on unmet senior needs held in February and June of this year. At the June meeting a majority of the 55 seniors present expressed a need to form a nonprofit corporation to serve the needs of Fortuna area seniors. After considerable planning organizing, and coordination with other agencies serving senior needs, the nonprofit corporation has been formed. The purpose of the corporation as defined in its by-laws is: "Provide a facility and forum where senior citizens can come together to discuss the needs of the Fortuna senior community, exchange information and have recreational activity; enable the Fortuna senior community to develop programs to satisfy the needs of the senior community and improve the quality of life for seniors and the community as a whole; and maintain a program of personal advocacy to assist senior citizens in evaluating and addressing their problems on an individual or collective basis." We look forward to our membership meeting Nov. 22, and invite all Fortuna area seniors to join us as charter members. We value your participation and input and hope that together we can be responsive to serving the needs of Fortuna area seniors. Jack R. East Jr. is the organizing officer of Fortuna Senior Services Inc. and can be contacted at 725-5869 during business hours. |
