Think about it Humboldt Taxpayers circulate petition for ballot by Leo Sears Since 1991 Sacramento has taken $30 billion in local property taxes and is preparing to take another $1.3 billion. Add to that the tens of billions in local tax dollars that unfunded mandates are costing local governments, and it means that we are approaching drastic cuts in local services or significant increases in local taxes. We can sit around and complain about the cuts when they come. We can pay more local taxes and complain about that. Or, we can help with the one million signatures needed to place the Local Taxpayers and Public Safety Protection Act on the November ballot. The petitions are available at the Senior Resource Center reception desk. April 15 is the deadline. For further information log on to www.protectlocalservices .com or contact the Humboldt Taxpayers League at 442-8299 or by e-mail at htl@humboldt1. com. Leo Sears is vice president of the Humboldt Taxpayers League. |
