Funeral Consumers Alliance to hold annual meeting by Tracy Jordan French The Funeral Consumer Alliance of Humboldt will hold its annual membership meeting Saturday, May 1, at the D Street Community Center in Arcata from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is being co-sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging. This year's guest speaker will be Tiffany Smith of San Francisco. Tiffany holds an MBA in Environmental Entrepreneurship and will be focusing her talk on the "green burial" movement in the United States. Green burials are a way to "eliminate toxins, preserve open space, and bring people closer to the natural world by transforming burial and cremation trends - reduction of all hazardous methods of dealing with death, not just in the realm of ecosystem health but in the realm of air quality as well as psychological health." The public is welcome to attend. For more information about the meeting and the Alliance call 822-8599. Tracy Jordan French is co-chair of the board of the Funeral Consumer Alliance. You can search out information on green burials at www.memorial ecosystems.com. |
