HSRC invites you to celebrate 30 years of service to Humboldt County by Joyce Hayes The Humboldt Senior Resource Center Board of Directors and staff invite you to celebrate our 30-year anniversary. On Thursday, May 20, our doors will be open to the community to enjoy lunch, tour our 1902 school house and participate in fun and interesting workshops presented by local experts. •Our festivities will begin with a buffet luncheon served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. RSVP by May 13 to Helen Hampson, 443-9747. •At noon we'll introduce our special guests and reflect on the past and future. •Following lunch enjoy one of our workshops: 1:20 p.m. Senior Fitness Specialist Donna Summerly will present Oh Them Bones, a weight-training exercise class for seniors to combat osteoporosis and improve balance. 1:20 p.m. Write the Stories of Your Life - so future generations will be able to know you - with John M. Daniel, writer and publisher. 2:30 p.m. Liven Up Your Party Food - prepare warm pastry-wrapped brie with caramelized apples - with Beverley Wolfe, owner/manager of Avalon Restaurant. 2:30 p.m. Oh, No! I Forgot! Is it Normal or is it Alzheimer's? with Maggie Kraft, director, Alzheimer's Resource Center. Superb door prizes will be awarded throughout the day to those in attendance. Jody Riccsoni, owner of Graystone Jewelers, has donated six prizes, one a beautiful broach of a lady's profile, hand carved in German onyx in a 14-K gold setting. The other five gifts consist of traditional 30th anniversary pearl stone creations. Scotia Inn owner Chuck Oppitz has invited the winner of their gift certificate to enjoy dinner for two and a night's stay at the charming registered historical landmark. Former Mayor Nancy Flemming has donated one of her oil paintings, at present untitled since it is a work in progress. Another local artist, Joyce Jonte, has donated a landscape painting. Many of her other works are currently on display at Plaza Design. Mary Lou Bertolini, owner of the Art Center, provided the finishing touch with a picture frame donation. Thank you to our generous donors. Celebrations will also be held at our Fortuna Adult Day Health Services Center and Senior Dining Centers at the Arcata Community Center and Mountain View Village in Fortuna.
