First anniversary
Fortuna Senior Services

Meryl King, Norma Wynn and Diane Clem were elected to the board at the first annual meeting of Fortuna Senior Services held Saturday, Jan. 15. They will serve three-year terms.

King, who was raised in Garberville, was a college math teacher, served 12 years on Board of Public Utilities in Santa Rosa, and is learning to write for publication. Wynn came to Fortuna two years ago with a background in food service programs, visitations and Head Start. Clem brings volunteer leadership training, a background with social services and HeadStart and service on the Foster Grandparents board.

Returning directors are Chuck Acridge, Kay Connors, Jack East, Dean Glaser, Diana LaVen, Lola Redfearn, Betty Storz and Josephone Williams.

The mission of Fortuna Senior Services, Inc. is to enrich, empower and involve seniors of the Fortuna area. The young organization, founded in November 2003, now has more than 100 paid members. Membership requirements were recently modified to include residents of Fortuna "suburbs" such as Hydesville and Carlotta, Ferndale and Loleta, Rio Dell and Scotia. The age for membership was lowered to 50.
