Creative Donation Helps HSRC
by Roz Keller

Bob Attaran, HSRC Advisory Council member and familiar face at 1910 California St., recently discovered a great way to dispose of a vehicle he no longer needed. He was going to sell his 1980 Mercedes SEL 450, which was still in very nice shape. Then he thought about having to put an ad in the paper and show the car to prospective buyers. He realized he would rather donate the car to a worthy purpose, and HSRC popped into his mind.

Bob contacted Dennis Gagnon at St. Vincent de Paul and took part in their great new program. St. Vincents takes possession of donated cars, sells them and splits the proceeds with the nonprofit of the donor's choice. Bob said he wanted HSRC to receive half of the selling price. The car sold quickly, providing a net profit of $1,400 to the Humboldt Senior Resource Center.

Many thanks to Bob Attaran for his thoughtful decision. Bob wants to remind everyone, "Don't forget that this is a great way to dispose of vehicles you no longer need, while helping senior programs and services."

For more information, call me at 443-9747, ext. 231 or Dennis Gagnon at St. Vincent de Paul, 834-5791.
