Senior Citizens Foundation Announces 2005 Grants Available The Senior Citizens Foundation of Humboldt County announced that small grants will be awarded by the foundation for projects that enhance the quality of life for Humboldt senior citizens. Organizations are invited to submit grant requests. Partial funding for proposals is possible. Grant applications are available by calling the Humboldt Area Foundation at 442-2993 or online at www.hafounda tion.org. Applications and supporting documents must be submitted by May 16, and applicants will be notified by July 1. In 2004, Senior Citizens Foundation grants were made to Food for People to supplement the Senior Brown Bag program, Fortuna Senior Services to support program offerings, Healy Senior Center for the Senior Dining and Home Delivered Meals programs, Humboldt Community Access and Resource Center to expand the senior fitness program, Humboldt Senior Resource Center to help fund a power-assisted door, Reading Service of the Redwoods for equipment to support their broadcasts, and Vector Health Programs for equipment and supplies for low-income seniors. The Senior Citizens Foundation Fund was established in 1987 at the Humboldt Area Foundation to enrich the quality of life of the community's elderly. Through gifts, bequests and donations, it is building a permanent endowment to supply private funds to augment public funding for senior services. Vera Vietor established the Humboldt Area Foundation in 1972. Through the Foundation, more than 10,000 donors in Humboldt, Del Norte and Trinity Counties have awarded 30 million dollars to worthy programs, special projects and student scholarships. |
