Silvercrest
New senior dining site to open in May

by Joy Ehlert

A new dining center will be added to the daily offerings of hot meals for seniors. A new partnership between Silvercrest Residence in Eureka and the Humboldt Senior Resource Center will provide daily lunches at Silvercrest.

Silvercrest Residence Manager Barbara Walser and I are delighted to announce this new partnership as we collaborate on an expansion of dining services to local seniors.

Like the dining centers in Arcata, Fortuna and the Eureka site on California Street, the Silvercrest dining room on Tydd Street in Eureka will be open for lunch not only to Silvercrest residents but to any area seniors age 60 and older.

The dining room will be open for lunch Monday-Friday. The same high quality recipes and menus will be served at the new site as are served at the other sites. Monthly menus are regularly printed in both the Times-Standard and Senior News each month.

The opportunity to open this second site in Eureka was made possible by additional Title III Nutrition funds provided by the Area Agency on Aging.

All eligible seniors are welcome, and we recommend reservations. Call 445-3141, or you may sign up each day at Silvercrest. Dining room opens at 11:30 a.m. and meal service begins at noon.

We encourage donations for these meals as this program is not fully funded, and donations are very important in helping us to cover the cost of the meals.

Joy Ehlert is director of the Nutrition Program of the Humboldt Senior Resource Center.
