Humboldt Classics win bronze medal at World Senior Games
by Art Jones
The Humboldt Classics 65s softball team traveled recently to St. George,
Utah, to compete in the Huntsman World Senior Games. With 62 teams playing
for 21 medals, our team won a bronze medal in the 65-C division, losing to a
Canadian team that was the eventual gold medal winner.
The four-day event, played in beautiful weather and spectacular
surroundings on world- class ball diamonds, was a new adventure for most of
the team. Several of our Humboldt Classics even played on some Oregon teams
in the 60s division. All in all, the team felt it was a most enjoyable
experience and is making plans to participate again in 2006.
Most of the team members also play in the Humboldt Senior Classics
Softball League that will begin looking for new members in April. The league
plays all summer in Fortuna, Eureka, Arcata and Blue Lake.
Art Jones of Blue Lake is a member of the Humboldt Classics 65s team.
