Healy Senior Center Director to retire May 8
by Evelyn King

It seems a little early to be writing this, but then word travels so fast in this community that it may be old news - I have made the difficult decision to join my husband in busy retirement as of May 8.

It was difficult because I love working here (most of the time), but I am excited because we are going to travel together, and I will be home during daylight hours and help in the gardens. After all, I began working for the center one day after moving into our newly built home on May 6, 2001.

A March trip to China kicks off our traveling. This is something I never thought I would be doing, but we have been blessed to be able to go.

The Healy Senior Center board will accept resumes with the hope of hiring someone to begin by April 18 at the latest.

The center is in good shape, but needs to attract younger older adults, so I plan to be a volunteer facilitator of groups such as "Writing Your Life Story" or a music appreciation course. I will keep leading exercise twice a week, but may start a walking group - whatever interests me.

Meanwhile, we have a new year to enjoy. I hope you will support us with your 2006 contribution. We are asking for an increase in your giving to keep up with rising operating costs.

Evelyn King is the director of the Healy Senior Center, 456 Briceland Road, P.O. Box 1849, Redway, CA 95560, 923-2399. This article was reprinted from the Healy Senior Center Newsletter, January 2006.
