Ferndale - Join the new social evening at the movies
by Richard Hooley

A new social happening has come to Ferndale. Our Savior's Lutheran Church is sponsoring a new program for the Ferndale valley community. Regular full length movies will be shown free of charge on most Sunday evenings at 5 p.m. through March 2007.

The Ferndale Senior Resource Agency has partnered with the church and will provide transportation for Ferndale valley residents age 62-plus or those with physical disabilities.

While the church is the sponsor, the program is not a religious event. It is rather a social evening where people in the community can come together to enjoy a night out. The movies will be full-length classics, foreign films (with subtitles), and recent features. The subjects are varied, but the consistent thread is hope.

Movies will be shown on a 14-foot screen - just as one would see at a theater - in the church's social hall, which has a seating capacity of about 70, and has a lift to accommodate wheelchairs and those who cannot climb stairs. Sandwiches, cider, popcorn and coffee are also available through the generous donations of community members. Door prizes will be a frequent additional attraction to add a bit of anticipation to the evening. No advanced notice or tickets are necessary. Just show up for a fun-filled evening.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m.; movies begin promptly at 5 p.m. For more information contact Wendy Lestina at (wlestina@earthlink.net). Transportation will be provided by the Ferndale Senior Resource Agency van. Transportation requirements must be called in to 786-4141 by the Thursday before the event.
