A new look Senior News goes to the new printer in town by Barbara Clark Senior News has finally been escorted very kindly into the 21st century. After hand pasting the paper onto 17-inch by 34-inch boards every month, this month we become all-electronic. The February issue will be printed on the state-of-the-art presses of Western Web, the press built by Rob and Cherie Arkley to print The Eureka Reporter. This first venture into full-color printing may not be as elegant as the issues in the future. We'll grow into this new technology - as soon as we climb up the learning curve. In making this change, I want to thank Kenny Priest at Tri-City Weekly. He has been our vendor for printing the paper since he has been at Tri-City the past three years. Before him Doug Fromherz took care of our printing needs. It all started when former Tri-City owner Ron Pileggi wanted to do something for seniors and piggybacked our monthly print run of 5,000 copies onto his larger run of thousands - first at Paradise Post in Paradise, Calif., then at Humboldt Printing in Fortuna. When Humboldt Printing closed some 18 months ago, Senior News went to be printed at the Times-Standard, the new owner of the Tri-City. There's always more to the story, and behind this one is a homecoming. When Ron Pileggi had us printed at Paradise Post, the production head was Steve Jackson - now director of operations at Western Web. When Doug Fromherz brought us in-county to Humboldt Printing, pre-press supervisor there was Jack Davis - now production manager at Western Web. We're glad to be back in Steve and Jack's capable hands - and we look forward to the crisp, clean production that comes from Western Web. |
