Ask HICAP Some beneficiaries get an extension by Anne Conrad-Antoville If you did not receive information about 2007 changes from your Medicare drug plan by Nov. 15, 2006, you have a right to change your current drug plan until Feb. 14. If you had a Medicare drug plan in 2006, the plan was supposed to have sent you a packet that described any changes for 2007 including premium, formulary and coinsurance changes. This notice is called the Annual Notice of Change, or ANOC. CMS Medicare has determined that some Medicare beneficiaries did not receive their ANOC materials by Nov. 15 as required. For those who were not given adequate notice on plan changes CMS has created a special enrollment period during which time people may make one change in their coverage for 2007. If you believe you did not receive your notice of change materials on time and you would like to change drug plans, you can call 800-MEDICARE (800-633-4227) and let them know you would like to change your plan. You have until Feb. 14 to do this. Call HICAP if you need help at 444-3000 in Humboldt and 464-7876 in Del Norte. Anne Conrad-Antoville is manager of the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program. |
