Fortuna Seniors' Scene bicycling, hiking, join a group by Chuck Acridge You're 50 or older and your New Year's resolutions included getting back on the physical activity track? Listen up. Two new outdoor physical activities are coming your way courtesy of Fortuna Senior Services - bicycling and hiking. And they won't cost you a thing. The kick-off meeting for the bicycling program, which may have been held by the time you see this issue, is set at the Fortuna United Methodist Church, 10th and N streets, in the Fireside Room, 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 2. Everyone is invited. The meeting is to decide ride characteristics - speeds, distance, routes, times and location. If hiking for health, recreation or simple environmental awareness appeals to you, the first meeting to discuss the same kinds of ground rules will be at the same place, the Fireside Room, Methodist Church, Friday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. The Thursday cards and games have become a mainstay for many, playing bridge, cribbage and pinochle. They're also looking for canasta and Mexican train players. The coffee's hot and the play lively, so join us at the Presbyterian Church, 1431 Ross Hill Road, 9:30 a.m. to noon, on Thursday morning. 2007 marks three years for the fledgling Fortuna Senior Services. In that span, FSS has developed a pretty full calendar of events. Check it out at the web site, www.fortunasenior.org. Or tell Executive Director Mary Ann Bansen what's on your mind at 726-9203. E-mail admin@fortunasenior.org. Chuck Acridge writes publicity for Fortuna Senior Services. His e-mail is acridge@suddenlink.net. |
