Redwood Community Action Agency provides low-cost rehab loans

Four cities and the county have active owner-occupied housing rehabilitation loan programs available for this year and beyond.

The cities of Fortuna, Rio Dell and Blue Lake have continuing federally funded Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) housing rehabilitation loan programs through December, 2009, for income-eligible owner/occupants and are looking for participants within their respective city limits.

Additionally, the city of Eureka and the county have housing rehabilitation loan funds from the HOME (HUD) and CALHOME (HCD) programs with similar income requirements. All four cities and the county have substantial loan pools, enough to complete from five to 25 projects in each. Also, the cities of Rio Dell, Blue Lake and Fortuna have received approval for funding for the two next cycles of the CDBG program, assuring available loan funds until 2009.

These programs focus on structural and mechanical repairs in an effort to protect the occupants and preserve the residence, including roofs, foundations, siding, porches and all mechanical systems. Energy efficiency, lead-base paint issues, and accessibility are also high priorities in these programs.

Each of the entities is currently contracted with Redwood Community Action Agency Housing Division to administer their programs. For parties interested in any of these programs, please call 269-2034. Information and applications for all of the programs are available at RCAA and will be sent to all interested homeowners upon request.
