Area Agency on Aging names new director Tom Rowe, president of the board of the Area 1 Agency on Aging, recently announced the selection of Cindy Denbo to serve as executive director. “With her proven history of leadership with the Humboldt County Library, her involvement with other community organizations and her commitment to the programs and services provided by the A1AA, Cindy has the skills, dedication and ability to build on the outstanding record of service that is the history of our organization,” said Rowe. Denbo comes to the agency from a long professional library career in Humboldt County. A graduate of University of Oregon, with a MLS degree from Louisiana State University, she has managed the branch library system of 10 libraries and mobile and extensions library services for the county since 1984 and has recently served as acting director. “The Area 1 Agency on Aging has established a remarkable record of achievement and a tradition of innovation and accomplishment over the past 27 years,” said Denbo. “One of the great challenges of our times continues to be the provision of quality care and services to our senior population. I consider it a privilege to work for the enhancement of their — of our — lives and am truly excited by the opportunity to work with so many dedicated and capable people who have provided great insight and energy in building this fine organization.” The A1AA (www.a1aa.org) is one of 33 California Area Agencies on Aging responsible for identifying, assessing and responding to the needs of seniors. The A1AA serves almost 30,000 seniors living in Humboldt and Del Norte counties and provides a variety of programs designed to foster healthy, safe, independent lives. The agency directly provides four programs: Senior Information and Assistance, Caregiver Services and Training, Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy and the Volunteer Center of the Redwoods, home to the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. The A1AA also assures a range of services through contracts with its partner agencies, including the Humboldt Senior Resource Center, Del Norte Senior Center, K’ima:w Medical Center, Healy Senior Center, Humboldt County Public Health Branch, Food for People and Legal Services of Northern California. “The agency is an outstanding resource for Humboldt and Del Norte counties providing essential services to growing communities in both counties,” Denbo added. “I am delighted at the prospect of becoming a part of it.” |
