McKinleyville's Misty Village Apartments by Paula Mushrush A 24-unit multi-family housing complex serving individuals and families received $1 million in grants and loans from HUD HOME. Planned by the Humboldt Bay Housing Development Corporation, the apartments at 2305 McKinleyville Ave. will be a multi-generational community of 14 one-bedroom units, eight two-bedroom units and two three-bedroom units. It is designed so that the quiet portion of the property will be for singles or couples, with downstairs units adaptable, two units fully wheelchair accessible, and one designed for hearing impaired. All the units will be "family friendly" with pets and children taken into account. Many will have small enclosed yards. The complex will include an on-site community center with laundry, meeting/recreation rooms and activities. Other funding sources were Rural Community Assistance Corp., Humboldt County Housing Authority, a Federal Home Loan Bank grant and a Humboldt Bank matching grant. Humboldt Bay Housing also developed the Bay View Courtyard senior apartments in Arcata. Paula Mushrush is director of the Humboldt Bay Housing Development Corporation.
