Batters up! New senior softball leagues forming by Jack Nash It's time once again for Senior Softball. The Humboldt Classic Seniors Softball Association (HCSCA) is working on some exciting projects for the 1998 season. This season will offer some progressive changes. First, the HCSCA will expand the men's program into two leagues-age 50+ and 60+. In order to attract as many 60+ teams as possible this year, that part of the program will accept players who will turn 59 by December 31, 1998. In the future players must turn 60 (or 50 for the younger men's program) by the end of the particular calendar year. We project three or four 60+ teams. Second, in response to requests for a women's program, the HCSCA will offer teams for women 45 (by Dec. 31) and older. It is projected that two women's teams will be put together for the 1998 season. Plans are for those teams, during the first year, to be integrated into the men's 60+ program. The entire Seniors' program will be evaluated as the season progresses. Players without teams or interested persons may call Stan Elcock at 443-2529 or Jack Nash at 442-2823. One-time article Copyright 1998 by Humboldt Senior Resource Center. |
