Foster Grandparent Program comes to Del Norte County
by Jessie Faulkner If you are age 60 or over and on a limited income, the Foster Grandparent Program now offers residents of Del Norte County the chance to help a child while earning some extra money that won't count against Social Security or other benefits. The Area Agency on Aging has contracted with North Coast Opportunities, Inc. (NCO) to bring the Foster Grandparent Program to Del Norte. Eileen Bostwick, director of the program at NCO, says, "I have seen the difference Foster Grandparent volunteers can make in children's lives by sharing their years of experience and wisdom. They offer valuable help to children by being role models, tutors, and friends." Nationally, 25,000 Foster Grandparents serve nearly 90,000 children. Margaret Keating Elementary School in Klamath will be the first site with Foster Grandparents. Plans are underway to expand the program to sites in Crescent City and Smith River. For more information on the Foster Grandparent Program, please call Eileen Bostwick at (707) 462-1954 or 1(800) 606-5550, ext. 328.
